Frequently Asked Questions - Sharing insight

How do you define your music?
I guess most would categorize it as World Fusion. Growing up in North America I was always enamoured by the more "exotic" sounding melodies and unfamiliar instruments. They somehow connect with me on a deeper, more familiar level; they always hit home? I try recreating the feelings I get through a more North American approach. It would be my dream to travel the World while recording with various ethnic instruments from various regions and celebrating the culture of the indigenous peoples.
What inspired you to play the guitar?
Most people who listen to my music would be surprised to discover that Iron Maiden is my reason for discovering the guitar. Heavy Metal music has influenced me greatly particularly where classical elements are present.
Where did you learn to play the guitar?
I went to a small guitar shop not too far from my home. I learned two scales and four chords and quickly became bored. There was very little "inspiration" behind what I was learning. I spent many hours playing in my bedroom along with many of my favourite albums; typically 8 to 11 hours everyday for the first few years. It was nice of my parents to allow this to go on!
What are some of your most memorable moments on stage?
With a previous Hard Rock band I got to open up for Def Leppard; playing in front of 18,000+ people. I also got to play some large festivals while touring with a Flamenco Dance company. I still also find great joy playing to smaller, more intimate audiences. I tend to be more nervous as the connection is more direct.
Do you give guitar lessons?
From time to time I've sat down with individuals but in an informal manner. I'm not qualified to teach as my knowledge of theory is nonexistent. I do give tips with regards to technique and philosophy which I feel are vital in delivery. THe main thing is capturing the essence and passion. After so many years of playing I am blessed to have the same fire for this greatest of all instruments.
Do you perform at charitable events?
It would depend upon the charity. If I can contribute something positive through my music and support the cause by being a positive role model then definitely!
